ARTAGRAM - Group Exhibition.....

This week was the set up and install of the ARTAGRAM Exhibition. This is a project that me and 3 other students (Beth, Kinga & Charlotte) have been working on for the last month. The main premise/idea behind the exhibition was to curate the entire thing via messages, but not using technology and finding different ways of sending messages such as using old receipts, shoes, pieces of metal, sound, recycled paper and so on. We would then display them in PS2 as artworks, and as an exploration of a lost method of communication.  For half of the letters we decided to hang the messages on string and have them dangle down the walls. We were inspired by the Royal Arcade in the city, and how they have the letters to Santa dangling down from garlands across the ceiling. We realised that we couldn't replicate this in our own way but we could alter it so that we could still have them hanging, just not from the ceiling. We also included plinths with objec...

Printing on acetate...

While doing some more stitching I managed to print onto acetate in colour. I wanted to see what my text experiments would look on a clear film. They all looked really interesting and worked really well on acetate. I also decided to layer some of them together, and create new images from them.  I am considering putting them into the interim show, but I need to discuss this with my curators and see what direction they would like me to go. I think if I was to have the acetate pieces in the show I think I would either have them hanging across the space (PS2?) or have them projected onto the wall which I also like as it turns them into a bold statement and changes the space completely. I also like the idea of having them displayed along with my textile pieces. Have them on the wall while having the acetate pieces hanging down from the ceiling. But these are all ideas which I need to suggest to the curators.  I might see if I can project these onto the wall when t...

INTERIM SHOW - Presentations and ideas....

Last week we started thinking about the Interim show in January. We viewed presentations from each of our exhibitors (all that turned up that day) and in the afternoon we discussed possible roles and schedule meetings to discuss things further.  We decided to split our group into two as while we were watching the presentations we noticed that some had religious themes and others had themes based on the body and dreams. We decided that that the first group be Religious Spaces and would be in PS1 and that Bodies and Dreams would be in PS2. The reason we decided on project spaces is that those in Religious Spaces had a lot of 3D work and projections, which the open space in PS1 would allow, and those in Bodies and Dreams would have a lot of 2D work mounted on the walls, which the narrow space of PS2 would allow.  Those in Religious Spaces are:  - Beth Freer - Cameron McGee - Colleen O'Brien - Cameron Cole Those in Bodies & Dre...

Stitching continued....

I decided to continue with the stitching idea and stitched some text onto a lingerie back that I also got along with the aprons and such. I wanted this to be slightly different to the other pieces so I decided to stitch the text straight onto the object rather than stitching on pieces of text on paper. I wanted to have a piece which challenged the norms of our society through a traditional method that women were restricted to use for art back in the day. I used black thread as I felt that this would stand out better than the red or teal thread, and I wrote out the text onto the bag so I had a template to stitch onto. The text wasn't as successful as stitching on the screen print strips, but still looks interesting as a whole piece. I did decide to place this piece as well as the other stitched pieces onto a white wall outside of my studio space as I wanted to see what they would look like all together and on a white background - (inspired by the white cub...
